Building the Website for an Awards Body: Legacy Awards | TTGC

We are building the whole Legacy Awards website from the ground up, next to the rebrand we are delivering for the same program. One assumption shapes the entire build. Most people will meet this award on a page, long before they ever see a stage. So the site has to answer the quiet question every visitor brings with them. Is this program worth my time?

The challenge

Four groups arrive with different jobs in mind. A nominee wants to know what happens next. An entrant wants the rules, the categories, and the cost of getting it wrong. A partner is deciding whether the program deserves a logo beside its own. Everyone else is following along out of curiosity. Serve all four on one page and you usually serve none of them well. That is the real problem, and it sits under the obvious one. Every screen still has to feel as grand as the award itself.

Our approach

We design for trust before we design for beauty. On an awards site, trust is mostly the absence of doubt, so much of the work is subtraction. A calm layout, generous space, and plain type do more for credibility than ornament ever does. Grandeur that slows the page down is not grandeur at all. It is friction in a nice suit. Every section then has to earn its place by answering a real question about the program, the categories, and how to take part.

What we built

A design that earns its authority by holding back. Fewer elements, more room to breathe, and type that acts the same on every page.

Plain sections for the program and its categories, plus the two ways in. Entering yourself is not the same task as nominating someone else, so each one gets its own steps.

Navigation shaped around the person asking, rather than how the awards body is run. Entrants, partners, and guests each get a short route to what they came for.

A lean build, because loading speed is part of the impression an award makes. The simplicity that keeps a page quick is also what makes it easier for search engines to rank.

The outcome

The build is still underway, so we will not claim results it has not had time to produce. What we can describe is the intent. Every page is designed to help a first-time visitor become a confident entrant. And the program gets one address it can send anyone to. A partner, a hopeful entrant, or someone merely curious all land in the same place.
